Installing Dental Implants
Dental implants are comprised of several parts, including the implant, an abutment, and a crown. The implant portion looks like a small metal post. It is typically made from hypoallergenic titanium and is embedded directly into the jawbone. The implant will act as a replacement for the tooth’s root.
Over time, the metal implant will fuse with the jawbone through a process known as osseointegration. Fusion takes several months. Once complete, the abutment is screwed onto the implant and will hold the crown, or replacement tooth in place.
