What Porcelain Veneers Can Do for You
Get the smile of your dreams with help from porcelain veneers.
You’ve decided that you want to feel more confident in your smile and in order to do this you want to get cosmetic dentistry. We’re so excited that you want to take the next step with us. Our Manteca, CA, dentist Dr. Rujul Parikh offers a variety of different options to cater to your needs. One popular cosmetic dentistry option is porcelain veneers.
What are porcelain veneers?
Veneers are ultra-thin porcelain shells that are custom-made and then bonded to the front of your teeth to hide a variety of flaws while improving the overall shape, size and look of your smile. Even if you aren’t dealing with any cosmetic imperfections getting veneers can still enhance and alter the shape of your smile and even make it appear straighter.
Veneers are often used to hide:
- Discolorations and stains
- Gaps between teeth
- Chips and cracks
- Misshapen teeth
- Worn down teeth
How are dental veneers placed?
Before getting veneers you will need to come in to see our Manteca, CA, cosmetic dentist for an evaluation. During this consultation we will make sure that your teeth are right for treatment and that veneers will be able to meet your goals. Once we’ve determined that you are an ideal candidate for veneers we will need to prep your teeth.
During tooth preparation we will file down a very small amount of enamel from the front of your teeth. This is painless and can often be performed without even needing local anesthesia. Once the teeth have been prepped then we will take impressions of your teeth. A dental lab will use these impressions to create your custom-fitted veneers. In the meantime, we may place temporary veneers over your teeth, depending on how much enamel had to be removed.
Once your veneers have been created you’ll come back into our office so that we can check the fit and look before bonding them permanently to your teeth. To bond them to your teeth we will place a dental resin between the veneers and the front of your tooth. Then we will direct a light over the tooth to harden the resin and bond the veneer permanently to your tooth.
